Frequently asked questions - Refractive
1
What is refractive surgery?
Refractive surgery corrects vision problems so you can see clearly without glasses or contacts.
2
What is PRK?
PRK gently removes the surface layer of the cornea, then reshapes it with a laser. It’s safe and effective, but recovery takes a bit longer compared to other methods.
3
What is Femto-LASIK?
Femto-LASIK uses a laser to create a thin flap on the cornea, then another laser reshapes the tissue underneath. Recovery is quick and comfortable for most people.
4
What is ReLEx SMILE?
ReLEx SMILE is a minimally invasive procedure where a small piece of tissue is removed through a tiny incision, without creating a flap. Many patients have faster recovery and less dryness.
5
Which procedure is safest?
All three are considered very safe. The best choice depends on your eye health, prescription, and lifestyle.
6
Is laser eye surgery painful?
No. Numbing drops are used so you feel no pain during surgery.
7
When can I return to work?
Many people return to work in 1–3 days after Femto-LASIK or SMILE. PRK recovery is longer and can take about a week.
8
Will I need glasses again in the future?
Laser surgery corrects your vision now, but natural changes (like needing reading glasses) can happen later with age.
9
Am I too old for laser vision correction?
Age alone doesn’t disqualify you. Eye health and stable vision are the most important factors.
10
What if I move my eye during surgery?
Modern lasers have tracking systems that follow eye movements in real-time, so the laser stays perfectly centered.
