STRABISMUS AND EYE HEALTH IN CHILDREN

Children are our future and our most important assets. We spend sleepless nights taking care of them. To ensure their health we may even ignore ours. However, due to negligence caused by a lack of knowledge, we may inadvertently cause them problems whose correction at an advanced age is far more difficult than at a young age. Two of the most common problems are: strabismus and amblyopia ("lazy eye"), which can be successfully treated, and detected at an early age.

REGULAR EYE EXAMINATION OF CHILDREN IS IMPORTANT

It is important to detect and treat such defects in the sensitive period of up to 7 years of age, in order to prevent amblyopia. Children, irrespective of their age, who complain about vision problems should be examined by specialists in pediatric ophthalmology. With respect to children in the age group of the neonate to 16 years of age, it is highly recommended to have an eye examination six months after birth, prior to enrolling at school, and regularly during their school years.
