KERATOCONUS CAN BE STOPPED

Keratoconus is a disease in which the cornea, in the transparent front layer of the eye, in conjunction with myopia and astigmatism becomes thinner and liquefies. The disease typically evolves in patients between the age of 6 to 40, and reaches its final state in patients in their forties. Keratoconus changes the shape of the cornea and distorts the vision. The causes of this disease are not yet fully understood, but it is believed that a person's genetic makeup and mechanical traumas play a significant role in its appearance. Frequent rubbing of the eye, environmental factors, and a person's genetic disposition may contribute to the advancement of the disease.
